Beauty in Simplicity

Updated: Nov 17, 2019

The details in this stamp set blew me away! Thank you to Tim Holtz and Stampers Anonymous for another great stamp set: Natures Wonder CMS343. I wanted to make a simple card celebrating the stunning fall colors we are currently being blessed with in Northern California. Creating your own backgrounds for cards is a great way to use your stamps and achieve simplicity. My plan was to color all the leaves but I really couldn't bring myself to cover all the detail work in these images...so going with simplicity in mind, I chose a few to highlight and let the remaining leaves speak for themselves. What are your thoughts? Do you prefer simple cards or more elaborate layers and embellishments?

I inked the stamp with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and layered ivory watercolor paper with kraft cardstock. I also cut the card bodies out of the same watercolor paper. The three embellished leaves were colored with a variety of shades from my Zig clean color real watercolor brush set and glazed with Tonic's Nuvo Crystal Glaze. What's great about Tonic's glaze is the fluidity and layerability of it. You can use a tiny amount for a bit of shine or layer it for a thick and shiny affect. What I have done here is somewhere in between. I hope you enjoy the card and find some inspiration in making simple cards that reflect this beautiful season we have before us!
